Freebie

What to talk about. So much has happened to me in dance this semester. When I started out I can honestly say I knew nothing in modern technique, but every day class molded me into an opposition having, pelvic shifting dance major. I feel way more confident with who I am in general as well as with who I am in dance. I like a part of the HCC dance department and I cannot wait to see what is in store for me next semester 🙂

anatomical corrections

The most common anatomical correction given to my class is to shift the pelvis. Shifting the pelvis is used when traveling through space. Most of my class finally began to understand this concept towards the end of the semester. never the less, I believe in the end we all began to move together and learned where to shift and when during most of the combination’s.

Present

In my words being present is being ready to dance and knowing how to apply proper technique. When you show up to a dance class, If you come in ready, that energy will transfer to everyone else.Showing that your present will in turn give you more respect from your fellow dancers. They will know that you are serious and know that your there to learn. If your present in class you will know what it feels like to be present on stage.

When I dance I….

Find that I can let all my worries and stress melt away. It’s my time to worry about me and concentrate on my body. being insecure is impossible around that many of my friends. I feel like I’m at home and can really let loose. I also try to concentrate on what technique I need to fix and what corrections I was given the day before. Feeling the energy from everyone helps me become confident in what I’m doing. When I dance I feel like I’m exactly where I need to be.

What did I work on hardest?

I feel as though I worked on two steps the most. I worked on my tendus and finding opposition.  I found that in finding opposition I began feeling more aware of what I was doing. In return I began to look ready and prepared forth next movement. When I started getting the hang of pushing through the floor for tendus, I found almost everything in ballet and modern that much easier. Next semester I plan on concentrating on perfecting opposition in turns. Doing this should bring me that much closer to better technique

Hidden Movements

Smaller movements such as tendu, frappe, and, degage are basic building blocks to completing larger movements. For me I found that Plies are what give most movements complexity. Plies are used to prepare for turns, jumps and even shifting your weight. When I began perfecting my plies is when I feel I truly began to shift properly.
